At the Science Festival, held from 5th to 7th December 2008, IMGGE organized a prize draw as a part of the «Secrets of the DNA» stand. Around 1550 visitors attacked the task to translate DNA sequence into an amino acid sequence of the protein. Ten lucky winners visited our Institute on January, 22nd 2009. They spent some time with our researchers and did some experiments. They extracted DNA from their own buccal swabs, analyzed DNA on agarose gel and took it home as a souvenir. Also, they saw what researcher do at the Institute, how the bacteria are coloured and what do they look under the microscope, how DNA is labelled with fluorescent colours and how it’s analyzed, how to grow plant and mammalian cells in cell culture.
